Flex work, a staple t-shirt, and a fave newsletter for "mom things"
As my friend Keren texted me last week, “The world is sort of being a shithead to you right now!” It was exactly what I needed to hear because — and I’m sure I’ll share more soon — she was absolutely right. I’m in the midst of what we’d label at Platonic Love the “messy middle” — but I am starting to see a glimpse of light on the other side.
All is to say, huge props to Aja for carrying the load over here while I’ve been somewhat MIA. You’re the best, and it feels good to be back.
This week, no guests. Just your OG Platonic Lovers…

I’ve been on the job hunt recently (more on that soon) — and while I’m focused on full-time work, I thought this flex work job board from Mother Untitled (h/t to my sister-in-law) was genius.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs. This quick freezer dinner wins rave reviews (from me) for helping stretch out the number of days before I have to go to the grocery store again — they almost put homemade meatballs to shame (we’ll often throw them over regular or Banza chickpea pasta.)1
Surprisingly affordable and very adorable dresses recommended by
. (Loooving these puffy sleeves.) I do have a few late spring/early summer weddings coming up…… which is also why I just unpaused my Nuuly subscription.

Continuing last week’s conversation on age: How old do you feel? (Turns out if it’s younger than your “true age,” that’s a very good thing.)
If this existed in Boston, I’d sign up so fast. (Aliza: This is one of those moments when I’m so jealous of New Yorkers.)
The Guardian series “Dining Across the Divide” warms my heart. Each week, two people from different political backgrounds have dinner together; empathy and greater understanding (usually) ensue.
Friend of the Newsletter Ariel says her Christophe Robin hair scrub “gave her a new scalp.” Bought immediately.
I’m recreating all of these outfits as soon as it hits 65 degrees.
Regrettably, this is my favorite staple t-shirt yet.
Newsletter we sent our friends:
is best known as a former magazine editor for many, many big names (Teen Vogue, Lucky, Glamour, InStyle) and founder of the popular fashion newsletter — and while I adore her style, it’s her other, motherhood-focused newsletter that is such a breath of fresh air. As Laurel describes it, “Nothing is sacred, nothing is TMI, nothing’s fancy, or nice, it’s hanging on by a thread but also doing it!”Last week, Laurel wrote a piece entitled What are we going to do for dinner? that goes from meal prep to unrealistic expectations on mothers to an honest and light-hearted reflection on adult friendship. Given said frozen turkey meatballs recommendation above, I’d say we’re kindred spirits. Read more from Laurel over at
.Question we asked our friends:
Aja and I have started talking (extremely seriously) about an (extremely academically motivated) tour-de-bakeries competition of sorts. But the question is: How do we compare one bakery to another? What if they have different specialties? Should we choose one item (for example, a chocolate croissant) to focus on, or look at the culinary experience more holistically?
Please tell us what you think…

Bonus point: My 18-month-old loves them too.
I have a running list of my favorite chocolate chip cookies from bakeries in nyc. All that it is based on is how I personally feel about their cookies. I currently have 8 ranked plus 5 more on my list to try. I take my work very seriously.
My friends and I are planning one of these with Pad Thai in Nashville. Just pad thai though. And then we'll move on to sparkly waters, chocolate chip cookies, etc. I like the idea of picking one item! So fun
