Aliza, my condolences as you’ve now entered the freeze-dried portion of motherhood—please bid farewell to your disposable income!! (Mangoes are a favorite of my kids, and if you’re close to a TJs their prices are slightly more palatable!)
I’d missed Aja’s piece about not being keen to be a homeowner so thank you for linking it! I was a (solo) homeowner for 5 years and I’m so happy to be renting again, for all the reasons you describe
I can't wait to see My Old Ass! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. We saw Good One last weekend and it was also great, it's been a while since we've had some solid indie releases in the theaters and I love this time of year because of it!
A tip: The library, at least the Cambridge main branch, often has popular books like James available in the Express section! It might not notify you about the Express options if you have a hold. You just have to return it within 2 weeks (but there are no late fees...) This is how I've been able to read new popular books like All Fours.
I lost track of which one of you lives close to Cambridge so I'm not sure how helpful this is, but they do have some express copies of James available now.
Historically my toddlers have done whatever they wanted, despite all my careful planning, but my tip is to talk it up all day (“what jammies do you want to wear on the plane?” / “mama will make you a little bed in the airplane for your bedtime!”). Planes are the setting where I’m most generous with Tylenol, especially if they’re even *slightly* under the weather. It makes a big difference in their comfort, even if they don’t fall asleep.
Same advice here! Had great luck getting our toddler to sleep on a red eye this summer - we referred to it the whole trip as the "bedtime airplane." We've also always had her sit in carseat on the plane (highly recommend the Cosco Scenera for travel), and I think that was key (she's not even a huge car napper!).
I almost always order burrata too. Also if grilled octopus is there...I will do it although trying to wean myself of this habit. Half an Inch of Water is on my list, glad to hear it's good.
As an aside curious if y'all have done a Minneapolis guide? I'm going soon!
We haven’t, but great idea! I asked my sis (who has lived there over a decade now) if she’d drop in some favorites. Also, Kelly Johnson (who writes the Substack called The Opt-Out) lives in Minneapolis and likely as recs!
I'm historically not a burrata person, but I would go back to Giulia for that peach burrata alone...
SO. GOOD. We do need to go back for that...
...although probably a seasonal dish??
Ugh, sadly, I think you’re right. Pencil the burrata in for next summer.

Hahaha, I'm laughing out loud! The ones I bought last weekend were actually from TJs...the best.
Octopus for me! I’ll never ever cook it at home so I’ll always order it to see how it is
Ditto! I love grilled octopus... calamari is in the same category for me.
Yummm this is such a good one.

I love hearing from people who bought and then transitioned back into renting! Thanks for reading :)

I remember seeing the trailer for Good One — will definitely check it out!

This is a hot hot tip. I live very close to Cambridge. Thank you Rachel!!
Gavin! 💔
Roasted brussels sprouts appetizer, somehow they are always better at restaurants than homemade!
This was my runner-up!! Home brussels sprouts = mushy, metallic. Restaurant brussels sprouts = crispy, caramelized, amazing.

Wowow this is brilliant advice — tysm! I’ll have to report back next time.

"Bedtime airplane" is so cute.
If there’s foie gras on the menu I’m getting it. It’s possible I’ll let you share!
And I’m def into those sweats
Ooohh what a treat, yes please share!

Eggs Benedict!!!
I have needed a sign to try a new shampoo. This may be it!
