So intrigued by the distribution on pre marriage agreements! I can’t wait for yall to dig into this more! An element I find even more fascinating: how couples organize financial accounts post marriage. Do you have 1 joint account that you spend from? How do you spend?
I am ALSO very intrigued by the responses! If "married/engaged & don't have one" is the most popular response, logically "not married/engaged but wouldn't get one" should be the second...
And those are great questions about spending once married... Sam and I are still figuring that out.
In France, they have the "contract de mariage" that you have signed by your notary before submitting your marriage paperwork to the city hall. It's basically a pre-nup and I actually think it's really cool that it's a very common and natural part of getting married over here!
Married with no pre-nup. We discussed it, BUT as we entered our marriage on a very even playing field (we are both on our mortgage, our salaries were within 15k of each other, minimal debt, etc). If one of us had significantly more assets, we likely would have gotten one.
When I got married, my husband and I had almost nothing to our name. A pre-nup didn't make sense... I didn't even have a 401k and I'm pretty sure he only had like 5k in his! A friend of mine got one when she married a man who had already been divorced and owns his own business. That made sense for him to protect his assets, and for her to ensure that if they are to divorce, she gets to maintain her standard of living- so far, they are still going strong!
My 94yo grandfather wants to get remarried (ugh... don't get me started on this) but I told my dad that if he does marry, he needs a pre-nup for SURE. He does have assets, and an estate battle would not be fun for the family to go through.
they re considered to be "against public policy," with "public policy" meaning things like marriage, family, stability, etc. basically meant to make divorces a little less accessible I guess...
I am currently single and in my mid 30s. By the time I get married (if I get married), I will have a significant amount of assets so I plan to get a prenup. I’ve also seen enough marriages of friends and acquaintances end in crazy circumstances that you just never know and I feel strongly that women need to be financially independent :)
That being said, I am Catholic and prenups aren’t allowed so not sure how I’ll slide that one past my priest haha.

Wow between this & last names... y'all are really doing things right :)
Divorce lawyer here … it’s always worth a conversation with an attorney in your state to determine if you’d benefit from having one!
Good idea!

Engaged and open to a prenup! My fiancé and I have briefly talked about this but don’t know where to start. Looking forward to Thursday’s newsletter!
Storefront!! Go girls! It looks so good.
Thanks friend! All Aliza :)
Got engaged last year and have been crowdsourcing about pre-nups for months now...excited for Thursday's issue!
Coming here to say that the new Megababe Santal deodorant is perfection, even better than Salt & Stone (at least to me!)
Ah this is big news!! I didn't realize they'd launched a Santal scent too... I've already been alternating with Megababe Rosy pits. Big fan.
That was the second-most popular rec, I think!! Love that Santal is now a popular scent, it's one of my faves...
sameee!

Owning your own business is *such* a good scenario for this. And good luck with your grandfather...! I hope he sees the wisdom of a pre-nup.
Gorgeous photo of you two and congrats on the flagship!!
interestingly, prenups are illegal in India!
Oh, wow! Do you have any context on why?
