An older mom I know told me she watched the way I spoke to my two year old and told other new moms to follow my example. I hadn’t realized anyone had been paying attention.
I think we just explain a lot and engage with them and what they’re trying to communicate before they were fully verbal? And explained what we were doing before doing it rather than doing anything « to » the babies? Sort of Janet Lansbury-ish narration except I’m very lavish with making sure the kids know I find them delightful.
Once, a male grad school classmate I had a kind of contentious relationship with told me I had a really nice speaking voice which I think of whenever I think I’m gonna die if I have to hear my voice again, haha.
And recently a fellow mom I admire said my energy feels really grounding and positive which felt great to hear.
A few years back I was playing some pickup beach volleyball and a woman (10+ years older than me) was helping me with my overhand serves, which are often a challenge for me.
She said a few times "you have enough power." Although she meant it in a physical sense, I still hear it in my head when I'm facing some challenges.
I actually keep a running Note on my phone of words other people have used to describe me. Some of my favorite snippets have come from the middle and high schoolers I volunteer with at my church.
A high school boy said I was "a radiant beam of life”; a middle schooler told me that I am like a unicorn because I “smile a lot and know everything” 🦄💁🏼♀️. One of my girls told me that another kid had said to her, “I can’t believe Mckenzie’s not married.” And she said back, “That’s because no one is worthy of her.”
One that sticks with me was from a coworker at my first part-time job at the movie theater. This was way back in 2015 or so? I made some kind of joke and he said, somewhat in awe, "it's a good thing you're nice, because with your wit, you could be REALLY mean." Double compliment: I'm funny and I'm kind :') makes me laugh every time I think of it lol
I’m keeping to my routine. I’m not going to change anyone’s mind at this point so I’m going to exercise, eat good food, paint a little and enjoy my family. All the while, hoping that the Loud Men for Kamala find me on the street.
That hair tie is such a good find! And cheers to only watching heartwarming, feel-good content. I'm in the same boat... well, that and my murdery thrillers. <3

That’s so incredible and thoughtful 🥹 tell me your secrets?
Umm HOW do you talk to your two year old? Need all the tips.

Love how both of these stuck with you! And what an incredible compliment coming from another, mom 💛

Oh my gosh PAIGE that is such a good compliment. He said so much in just one sentence.
An intern once told me that I used chopsticks really well for someone who isn’t Asian (he was a Chinese international student). I felt so seen!
Ooh, that's a great one.
So excited to try the skincare recs and the book list was amazing!
Thanks Celeste! 💛

Right!? I think I’d be so flustered and excited that I just wouldn’t be able to stop laughing! Ha

Totally! There are exceptions…
People always compliment my hugs, I’m quite proud of them! Going to be giving out plenty this week.
