Links we sent our friends #64
Food lovers, upcycled designer vintage, and Aja's brief Paris dispatch.
Hi hi! Aliza here. I’m going to keep it short because there’s a lot of good stuff in this issue.
Want to know where food legends like
1 and chef Nancy Silverton eat out? This week’s guest has you covered.Gabrielle is a travel writer, contributor to Condé Nast Traveler and Coveteur, and author of The Relisher: a newsletter bringing us food and travel recommendations from some of the greatest food lovers around the world.
Every other week, Gabrielle interviews a top chef or food expert about their favorite hometown restaurants — like Ruth’s can’t-miss New York restaurants, where Yolo Intel founder
loves to eat in Rome, and more.Gabrielle’s Links:
I live in these Adidas Samba sneakers, which I found through
’s style newsletter. I love that you can dress them up and down. (Aliza: They come in toddler sizes too! Jude rocks the purple striped pair.)The best novel I’ve read this year.
For our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband and I went to Florence — one of our favorite cities in the world — and celebrated at the Belmond Villa San Michele. This is a dream Tuscan hotel; I highly recommend it for a special occasion.
My favorite chocolatier in Paris. You've never seen a chocolate store like this before — they look like chocolate art galleries.

The next pair of sunglasses I’m buying. (Exciting because they’re less than $50.)
I’ve been doing a bunch of travel research lately — assuming my almost two-year-old, who can no longer fly free, will be coming — and it’s shifting my mindset around vacation spending. Historically, I’ve embraced the budget airline, the public transit commute, and the no frills hotel, but with a kid, there are so many more considerations… Some of these figures were shocking to me.
I also loved
’s tips and reflections on solo travel.Runners, this is a fun collaboration. (Even though it looks like the cap I wanted is already sold out!)
This weekend was my third visit to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, an annual summer dance festival in the Berkshires. Jacob’s Pillow has a rich history — hosting dancers from across the globe since the early 20th century — but still doesn't feel super well-known. This year, I saw the Dance Theatre of Harlem. If you’ve never been, add the festival to your summer bucket list.

Live from France: I think I’ve perfected my travel essentials. This portable charger has saved me from a dead phone, Kindle, and computer on multiple occasions. I keep one of these on me at all times so I have something to carry random purchases — it’s also handy if I have any suitcase overflow on the way home. And I’m always more reflective when I travel, so I bring this lightweight notebook and one of my favorite pens.
An entertaining true story of a Toronto tennis club’s new money vs. old money showdown.
It’s already turning fall-ish in Paris, so obviously I was paying close attention to what everyone was wearing. Lots of skirts like this one and this one, bags like this one (both shape and material), and surprisingly, more pairs of these shoes than I could count. (Aliza: Those are a throwback to my middle school days, and I want them!)
Laid Off is such a fantastic idea for a newsletter.
is interviewing smart and cool people who were let go, going beyond the generic LinkedIn posts with questions like, “Did you see it coming?”, “Has being laid off changed how you view your relationship to work?”, and “What do you wish people would stop saying or doing after someone gets laid off?” (Aliza: WOW, I love this.)Made me laugh — and then send to four friends..
Is everyone horny for Ezra Klein? (Personally: Yes. My sister: “Depends on the day.”)
Question we asked our friends:
Clearly, travel is on our minds this week. I (Aliza) am not giving up on family travel…
So tell me: What have been some of your most successful (and affordable?) family vacations? (Bonus points for toddler travel.)

Gabrielle is not kidding about that chocolate shop. I went to Patrick Roger on a fantastic Paris By Mouth food tour in May and it was spectacular; they had a maybe 6 foot long whale shark made out of chocolate on display in the window. (Also, shout out to PBM/Meg Zimbeck's amazing substack for anyone traveling to Paris! https://parisbymouth.substack.com/)
OK, I love every edition of "Links," but this one was especially fabulous...I think I clicked on everything?! 😅 The Tour du Mont Blanc has been on my travel bucket list forever, so I especially loved Irene Kim's tips.
Wishing you luck on the family travel front, Aliza. As a kid, my family's go-to was a road trip to a national park: budget-friendly for sure, but unfortunately probably not a low-stress choice for my parents!
