Hello friends, old and new! Platonic Love is written by me (Aja) and Aliza. We both love reading, themed parties, and getting into a deep conversation after Sunday hot yoga… but in many other ways, our lives right now are pretty different. Aliza’s a new mom and firmly a Millennial; I’m fairly far from having kids and a geriatric Gen Zer.
This gap gives us a lot to talk about:
Every Monday, we share a round-up of the links we’ve sent our friends — what you’re reading right now — followed by a Thursday essay, where we delve into the topics of those post-yoga conversations.

GQ’s interview with famed “for the girlies” fashion designer Tom Ford was an excellent and surprisingly poignant read, replete with studio 54 escapades; anecdotes of his long-time, recently deceased partner; and emotions around selling his eponymous company.

I tried to resist too much superfluous Black Friday shopping, but I did get a pair of matching Converse for Jude and me.1
When my friend Suzanne said Romantic Comedy might just be “the best book I’ve read this year,” I knew — even though I’m not much of a romance reader — I’d give it a shot. I love when I find a smart, fun read that challenges that and gives me butterflies.
Coveting Diana’s sunglasses from The Crown’s final season, but this pair from Madewell might just have the best price point.

for made me gasp: Millennials say they need $525,000 to be happy. Agree or disagree? And these made me laugh hysterically… but I also have to say, as someone who begs her partner for a massage every night (sorry, Sam), I’m curious to give them a try?
On Thursday, we’re sharing our secrets to giving a great speech or toast. Talk to ya then.

Ohhh thumb massagers are the PERFECT stocking stuffer 👀
I felt like a boomer reading the millennial happiness survey. How is $130,000 not sufficient? But honestly, it isn't. I live in a small city and am meticulous with spending and even buying a small 2 BR midcentury home isn't achievable on close to that income. I've tried. :( Something has to give and it probably isn't a latte... between trying to max out a 401k to catchup, save for predictable expenses like car repairs and collaborate with another person and their wants and needs on financial decisions... there ain't much left to save for the hefty downpayment that'll get ya a 15 year mortgage and save a bazillion dollars on interest.
