. Edited by .I (Aja) set my 2024 resolutions squeezed into a cozy booth with my partner, Sam, and our friends Blake and Suz. We were spending New Year’s in Portland, Maine, and a blizzard had begun earlier that morning. Our half-mile trek to breakfast was white and silent, interrupted only by our laughter and the sound of a lone shoveler unearthing her car.
This diner was typically packed, Blake and Suz told us, but that morning we were some of the only people there. As we ate home fries, eggs, and blueberry pancakes, we took turns reflecting on the year and sharing our resolutions.
By December, I remembered sitting there, happy, bright-cheeked from the cold, a little hungover, far more clearly than I remembered my resolutions themselves. It was only a few weeks ago, when I found the note I’d made on my phone, that they came back to me.
Honestly, losing track of my resolutions mid-year is pretty par for the course. But to my surprise, when I looked back on 2024, I realized I’d actually made a lot of progress on my goals. Below, I recap each of them and how I did… as well as the single (and hardest yet?!) resolution I’m setting for 2025.
