An unexpected Venmo, Aliza's newest boots (??), a new book and musical, and more
Hi friends. How are you doing? Sam and I (Aja) tried to buy pumpkins for carving this weekend, but apparently everyone else had the same idea and there were no pumpkins to be found. To be honest, I was relieved: I’m always the first person to lose interest in a craft (probably because I’m really bad at them.) Instead we walked around the neighborhood and admired porch decor, which is exactly my speed.

A fascinating explanation of the inner life of cats: why they purr, rub against your ankles, and seem to have certain personality traits tied to their coat colors and patterns.
Trying to convince Aliza she needs these boots.1 (Aliza: Very strongly considering.)

Making sure you heard about the Nobel Prize Winner who’s been studying how to close the gender wage gap for decades. She’s a badass. (Aja: I did not know!)
Not to belittle my first link — I also recently learned about influencer baby name predictions (courtesy of

’s forthcoming first (!) novel You’re Safe Here. Leslie shared more about the book, her own writing journey, and why pre-orders are so important (who knew?!) here. (Aja: Ha, I did know the preorder thing.) I can’t wait to read it next summer. And a new musical alert for my Boston area locals: I just got tickets to see Real Women Have Curves in January, a musical (based on the beloved 2002 movie4) premiering at the A.R.T. in Cambridge and guaranteed to make me cry. Tickets just went on sale so there should be $35 seats still available — join me!

The best time of year, IMO.
This movie was originally released when I was 12 and preparing for my Bat Mitzvah, so let’s just say I was in my feeeeels.
